What’s the best colour leather for your project?

Colour plays a vital role in design, from creating specific moods to even influencing the decisions people make. Since the hues we choose can impact emotions and psychology, it pays to consider them thoroughly before applying them to any space or project. This goes for the leather you opt for, too.

From calming neutrals to energising reds, we examine how different colour leathers can make an impact, whatever the application is.

The psychology of colour in different industries

Perceptions may be subjective, but there are certain colours that suit particular industries perfectly – whether it’s a fast food restaurant, luxury airline, or private hospital.

Earthy neutrals

As well as being right on trend for 2024, neutral palettes are the natural choice for leather furniture. Earthy browns, rich tans, and warm greys create a sense of calmness, balance, and sophistication. This works perfectly in spaces where a serene atmosphere is needed – whether that’s a dental office, wellness centre, or even a rustic cafe.

Hues of blue

Known for its calming and soothing properties, blue leather can foster a sense of relaxation and trust. It’s a great choice for furniture in professional settings such as offices or conference rooms, like the benches and stools we created for Mix Group’s meeting space in Soft Jade, Mustang Lagoon, and Teal. Being the colour of the sea, it also lends itself beautifully to marine applications.

Green spaces

There’s a lot of versatility in green leather. Done with a dark, rich palette, it conveys serious class and prestige: whether it’s covering the classic interior of a Porsche or a fine seating area of an industrial-luxe hotel. Using a lighter tone, it can also symbolise growth and harmony, bringing a refreshing and rejuvenating vibe to interiors that makes it ideal for anywhere promoting wellness, such as doctors surgeries, spas, or yoga studios.

Statement reds

Bold and energetic, red leather commands attention. Used in leisure spaces such as dining and entertainment areas or family lounges, this powerful colour can really inject energy and excitement into an environment to encourage social interaction. We used our vibrant Mustang Wine to create the striking dining in Malmaison Brasserie.

Classic white

White leather is crisp and clean, while being versatile enough to work in minimalist residential designs or hotel interiors. We used it for this faux leather breakfast bar in Dollaro Platinum for a timeless, crisp aesthetic that can easily be cleaned with bleach. White is also one of our favourite leather shades for the marine industry: it complements the sleek aesthetics of yacht and boat interiors so well, enhancing the bright, airy spaciousness on board.
