Our Responsibilities

At Yarwood, we take our environmental and social responsibilities seriously.

Our Leather

Our leather is sourced as a by-product of the meat industry. Our leather is a hardwearing and long lasting product, which will outlast many manmade products and does not release microplastics into the environment.

Our Partner Tannery

We do not tan hides, but our main supplier is a small dedicated tannery in Italy who act as our partner and meet our exacting standards. Our tanning tannery is a Leather Working Group Gold Rated tannery. Our partner finishing plant has ISO9001 (Quality) and ISO14001 (Environmental) certification.

Our Faux Leather

This product is made from synthetic materials and is a non-natural product. It is mainly sourced from a supplier in Portugal who have ISO 9001 (Quality) and 14001 (Environmental) certification. Suppliers are audited in terms of their environmental performance to ensure that all legal requirements are met and environmental protections are in place.

At Our Site in Leeds

All our hides are inspected and samples are taken for quality testing by our in house laboratory. We do not use any coats/dyes/lacquers or finishes at this location and we do not use or store any hazardous or flammable liquids or materials.

We maintain a strict environmental focus on all areas of the business.

Energy

We are a relatively small energy user, however, we have still undertaken improvements. We have insulated, installed modern double glazing, and have replaced our hot water and heating boilers with a modern efficient plant.

Waste

Due to our efficient cutting processes, we ensure minimal product waste. Offcuts are used on-site or donated to local craft groups. The small amount of waste then left is taken to a waste transfer station to be recycled or sold on to be upcycled.

Packaging

We limit the use of packaging; hides are shipped rolled onto recyclable cardboard tubes, with minimal plastic packaging. Other leather products are shipped in recyclable cardboard boxes.

Support To Local Charities And Cause

We have an onsite tuck shop which donates all its profits to charity. Our team are avid fundraisers and participate in charity events throughout the year, most famously our Yarwood Bake Off for Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Our Plans For The Future

Our team, our business, our products. We take pride in continually developing and improving. If you have any questions, please get in touch with our team.
