Leather Colour Trends: The Red Edit

Red leather colour trend

Red can be many things. Vibrant and passionate, dark and moody or bold and seductive. That’s why it’s such a versatile colour for any interior and can be dressed up (or down) for whichever atmosphere is required. From pale salmon pink to rich dark wine and statement-making crimson, red is a colour of confidence and isn’t one to sit politely outside of the spotlight – this is a shade that commands centre stage and immediately attracts attention.

In the latest our colour trends series, we turn the focus to this bold and energising hue that can create a talking point in any setting and consider how it’s best placed for maximum effect among items of furniture and in other interior features.

The bold and the beautiful

There’s simply no real way to do red discreetly – add striking statement style to any room and own it. Bright and vibrant reds are thought to stimulate attraction and appetite and therefore make a great option for restaurants and hotel dining areas. If you’re not feeling brave enough to create an area awash with dramatic bright tones, pick out select areas and dot it strategically around the room. Upholster furniture in our Style Bright Red or Capri Poppy leather, for example, which are ideal for pops of colour in the hospitality sector and work brilliantly with Moroccan and other exotic-themed interiors. If you’re updating office space, bear in mind that bright reds and magenta accents are said to help concentration and productivity levels, making them a fantastic colour choice.

Red, red wine

Shades of red with brown and purple undertones help provide a traditional and classic feel to any space. The key with red is to avoid overuse – because of its intensity, it can quickly overstimulate and encourage feelings of restlessness. Enriched burgundies and shades at this end of the red colour spectrum work to create a sense of calm while still stimulating excitement. Deep reds like Redcurrant, Mahogany and Crimson in our exquisite Heritage range will bring character and charm to office interiors or luxurious-feeling spaces in the hospitality sector.

Perfect pairings

The beauty with red is that, when it comes to interiors, there isn’t a great deal it doesn’t work well with. And this leaves plenty of room for limitless creativity. Pair strong, bold reds with neutral colours for the best effect and to ensure they really take the attention. However, other vibrant colours can work just as well with it. Yellow, black or even monochrome black and white each beautifully complement red – but do think carefully about where each colour will be placed to avoid overpowering.

Warm, rich reds beautifully complement natural wood tones for contemporary interiors with a touch of the rustic.

Red has a powerful psychology to it that it makes it extremely versatile and suitable for any setting – but balance is important here. Harness its ability to appeal to the appetite or to feelings of calm or productivity – almost any colour works with red, after all.
