John Nicholls
Chief Executive Officer
John was born and raised in South Wales and left high school after his A levels
to pursue a law career. He went onto to study at Guildford law school and had successfully
completed several parts of course before putting his legal aspirations on hold to
support the family transport and logistics business. John ran Nicholls transport
for several years and re-organised the haulier into a successful organisation.
In the late 70's, leaving the family to run their now successful company, John sought
a new challenge in the furniture industry and joined Action Furniture part of the
Christie Tyler Group as Works Director and once again streamlined the organisation.
His vision was a furniture company making high quality furniture, which led to his
idea and proposal to the CT board of a high-class leather furniture maker. Pendragon
Furniture was soon born with Nicholls at the Helm and Pendragon soon became the
largest manufacturer of leather furniture by a considerable margin. One of John’s
responsibilities was the procurement of leather and through this he met Peter Yarwood.
In 1991 John decided to seek a new challenge and joined Peter at the helm of Yarwoods.
Over the next 10 years John took the small stock lot trader and turned them into
the largest supplier in CT history of any product. As the furniture manufacturing
base changed going into the new millennium, John recognised the changing needs,
and successfully took Yarwood from being a low margin stock lot trader, and turned
them into a sophisticated supplier with a premium brand image of a high quality
product with excellent customer service.
